6-year-old Mark doesn't want to stay home with
his grandparents (Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara)
while his parents shoot a film in Kazhakstan, so he
runs away from New York to stay with his Aunt
Myopia (Olympia Dukakis), a retired librarian who
lives in the Maine woods in a house made entirely
out of books. Mark gets an enviable education from
Aunt Myopia, her irascible but communicative pets
and and also learns--almost--to avoid ill-intentioned
social workers. By the end of the film, Mark must
outwit the social workers, save his father's film
and cement Myopia's romance with an Italian
Count who comes once a year (on the same day)
to propose to her (Giancarlo Gianini). A children's
film for the adult in all of us.
